Instead of having multiple RAID controller, have you considered using LSI SAS3081E-R in combination with Chenbro CK12803/CK12804/CK13601 SAS expander card? Chenbro&#039;s cards are based off LSI SASX28/SASX36 chips, they should in theory work well with LSI SAS3081E-R. The beauty of this combination is the fact everything here is supported by solaris (that is if you can get your motherboard to work with solaris...).

I&#039;m currently in the process of building a new home brew NAS. I currently have a 4x1TB drive array running Nexenta 2.0b3. I don&#039;t know if you have had some bad experience with Nexenta, but so far my experience with Nexenta has been fairly good.

For my next big upgrade, the combination I mentioned above is one of my options. But at the moment I&#039;m leaning more towards an system with LSI SAS3801E with external disk enclosure tower with built-in SAS expanders.</description>
